Birgi Historic

It is said that Çakıroğlu Mehmet Bey, a wealthy leather merchant, had two wives, one from Istanbul and the other from Izmir. Çakırğlu decorated the walls of the rooms with these pictures so that their wives would not be homesick. The restored mansion now serves as a museum under the Ministry of Culture.

Gölcük

Taking its name from Gölcük Lake, which is approximately 75 hectares in size, on the summit of Bozdağ between Ödemiş and Salihli, the plateau offers a good option to cool off for those who are overwhelmed by the heat in the summer months in İzmir and its surroundings. Gölcük, which is also suitable for picnics and camping, is 20 kilometers from Aydınoğulları Principality and Birgi, an important settlement during the Ottoman period, and 30 kilometers from Sard, the center of the Lydian Kingdom, in the direction of Salihli.

The lake, which is located in the middle of the plateau surrounded by pine forests, draws attention from photographers in the region, which draws attention with its appearance resembling Uzungöl in Trabzon, which is among the important tourism destinations of the world and Turkey.

The lush vegetation around Gölcük Lake, which was formed by tectonic movements at an altitude of approximately 1100, offers a calm and peaceful environment to the visitors.

There are coastal restaurants, tea gardens, picnic areas, walking paths for the forest, various shops and stalls selling local products and handicrafts in Gölcük, which is waiting to be discovered with its easy access and local dishes.
